Frequently Asked Questions About CDPrimate
-
What kind of cable do I need to connect my computer
to my CD changer?
You need more than a cable -- you need a special
interface like the Sony PCLK-MD1 or an interface
you build yourself. Please see the
hardware
page for more information.
-
I saw instructions for a cable at
http://www.undeadscientist.com/slink.html
.
Will this work with your program?
No, that cable is actually a parallel port
adapter designed to work with a custom Linux
device driver. See
http://www.undeadscientist.com/slink.html
for more information.
-
Will CDPrimate work with any Sony CD megachanger?
Pretty much. The Sony protocol is the same for
all of the Sony CD megachangers.
-
Will CDPrimate work on my Linux box? How about my
Mac? Windows 2000? Windows XP?
CDPrimate is written in Java and should work on
Linux, but we have not tested it on that operating
system and so we cannot support doing so. To the
best of our knowledge, Macs don't have serial ports,
so CDPrimate won't work on them at all. We have
tested CDPrimate on Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT,
and Windows 2000.
-
OK, I built the interface, how do I build the
cable?
Take a look at
these instructions.
-
Can CDPrimate help me rip tracks off my CD's?
Not yet, but it's a feature we really want to
add.
-
I don't want to build my own hardware. Can
you guys build it for me?
Yes. We charge by the hour for that kind of
work. Please
contact us
for a quote.
-
I don't mind building the hardware, but I don't
can't find the 8515 chip anywhere and I don't
want to download code to the microcontroller. Can
you just sell me one already programmed?
Sure. We're trying to come up with a flat rate
for that. In the meantime, please
contact us
if you'd like to discuss it with us.

Homebuilt hardware is ugly. Where can I find a
Sony PCLK-MD1?
Sony discontinued the PCLK-MD1 a couple of years
ago. I don't think they sell any similar devices
except for the PCLK-MN10A, which won't work
because it has a funny connector. It's made for
three or four minidisc decks and nothing else will
work with it. Sometimes you can find the PCLK-MD1 on
eBay
